Lenders filed 346 mortgage foreclosure lawsuits in the Lee County courts in February, according to statistics released today by the Southwest Florida Real Estate Investors Association.

There were 374 in January, and 1,421 in February 2010.

Meanwhile, 330 properties were sold in February in the county at public auction after lenders won foreclosure judgments against borrowers who defaulted. That compares to 350 in January and 923 in February 2010.

 Wells Fargo Bank filed the most foreclosures in February: 70.

The pace of foreclosures surged after Southwest Florida’s housing market collapsed in 2006 but started to fall after reaching a peak of 2,665 in November 2008.
