Lee Memorial LogoLee Memorial Health System, parent company of Lee Memorial Hospital, Health Park Hospital, Southwest Florida Childrens Hospital and Gulf Coast Medical Center has proposed building a  new hospital near Coconut Point in Bonita Springs near the Estero border.

The 80 bed facility would be built just South of Coconut Rd. and just East of U.S. 41 on 33 acres the health care firm owns adjacent to the Bonita Community Health Center.

New hospitals must be approved by Florida’s Agency For Healthcare Administration (ACHA). Earlier this month, Naples based Health Management Associates (HMA) announced plans to close Lehigh Regional Medical Center and construct a new hospital in South Lee County on Alico Rd.. ACHA will be tasked with deciding if either facility can be built although current health care demand only necessitates one new hospital in South Lee County.

Presently, Bonita Springs and Estero residents must travel between 7 and 15 miles depending on where they live to the nearest hospitals, NCH North Hospital on Immokalee Rd. in North Naples and Gulf Coast Medical Center on Daniels Parkway in South Ft. Myers.
