NCH-Free Standing Emergency Room Photo-2NCH Healthcare System has broken ground on a new free standing emergency room and medical office complex to be constructed on the north side of Immokalee Rd. where it intersects with Collier Blvd. (C.R. 951) behind a currently operating CVS pharmacy.

The 40,000 square foot building will be located seven miles east of the NCH North Hospital campus. The emergency room will have 21 beds and be open 24/7 to treat the growing population along the Immokalee Rd. corridor and the rapidly developing eastern area of Collier County. Currently, the NCH North emergency room treats 55,000 patients annually and hospital administrators are predicting the new emergency room will see 20,000 visitors a year.

The second floor of the building will house physician offices.

The new facility will cost $24 million, is expected to open this November and will employ a staff of 75.

The announcement by NCH Healthcare System comes on the heels of another planned free standing emergency room in nearby south Lee County.  Lee Memorial Health System has announced plans to build a $140 million medical campus which includes a free standing emergency room in Bonita Springs at the southeast corner of Coconut Rd. and U.S. 41.

Free standing emergency rooms (without inpatient beds) are becoming popular with healthcare networks around Florida because unlike full service hospitals, they can be built without state approval.
