This announcement comes as the U.S. Census bureau releases their annual list of the nation’s fastest growing cities. Not only was Bonita Springs in the top ten nationally, but the city was also the fastest growing in the state of Florida.

The population of Lee County’s southernmost city now stands at  54,198.

Fort Myers finished at 15th and is the only other Florida city to make the list . The population of Fort Myers is now 77,146.

Lee County is now home to an estimated 722,000 residents. In the list of the fastest-growing US cities with populations of 50,000 or more, Texas claimed four of the top five spots.
