Population Growth-GraphicIf it seems like there are more year-round people in Southwest Florida, that’s because over 30-thousand new residents were added in the past year to the population total of Lee and Collier Counties.

The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the combined population of both counties is now 1,087,472 residents.

The Fort Myers-Cape Coral metro area was the second fastest in population growth in Florida, and the fifth fastest growing in the United States during the past year, increasing 3.1% by adding 22,051 new residents. Lee County is now home to 722,336 people.

The Naples metro area population grew at a rate of 2.4% during the past 12 months, making the area the 17th fastest growing area in the U.S.. Last year’s 8,566 new residents brings the population of Collier County to 365,136.
