NCH Healthcare System-LogoNCH Healthcare System, the parent company of NCH Baker Hospital Downtown in Naples and NCH North Naples Hospital, has announced plans to build a freestanding emergency room, outpatient imaging center, outpatient surgery and endoscopy center and doctor’s offices on a 3.5 acre site on the northwest corner of U.S. 41 and Coconut Rd., across from Coconut Point Mall in Estero.

The two story, 40,000 square foot facility will cost $30 million and is slated to be completed by the fall of 2018.The new complex will be similar to another NCH freestanding emergency room/medical facility that opened in 2015 at the intersection of Collier Blvd. and Immokalee Rd. in North Naples.NCH Healthcare-Free Standing E.R.-Photo

NCH officials say the new facility will create 80 jobs.

The announcement of the NCH Estero medical building comes as the hospital system’s chief competitor, Fort Myers based Lee Health System is moving forward with a freestanding emergency room and diagnostic/treatment facility near the southeast corner of U.S. 41 and Coconut Rd..  The Lee Health complex is being built on a 30 acre parcel and will cost $140 million to construct. Both the NCH and Lee Health facilities will be almost diagonally across U.S. 41 from each other.

Construction of both medical centers and freestanding emergency rooms in Estero comes amid a rapid growth in population in South Lee County. Currently, the nearest hospitals to Estero, Lee Health’s Gulf Coast Medical Center in South Fort Myers and NCH North Naples Hospital on Immokalee Rd, are about 25 minutes from Coconut Point.
